Local Sports Information

Dayton, OH / Miami Valley Sports Information

The Dayton / Miami Valley area offers archery, softball, soccer, hockey, bicycling, tennis, racquetball, running, walking, hot air ballooning, boating, canoeing, sailing, sports car racing, martial arts, skydiving, gliding, horseback riding, ice skating, polo, trapshooting and swimming—just to name a few! NASCAR and NHRA racing is offered at Kil-Kare Speedway while harness racing is held seasonally in nearby Lebanon. Our local sports teams include the following:

  • Dayton Dragons: The area's favrorite professional sports team—the Dragons are a single-A minor league affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds and began their inaugural season in April 2000. They have sold out every game since then, establishing a world record for attendance! Season tickets are impossible to get, but tickets to individual games are not. Home games are downtown in the Fifth-Third Ballpark.
  • Cincinnati Bengals: All the action of the NFL comes to Paul Brown Stadium—just an hour south of Dayton. Dayton still has many loyal Browns fans, though, from the old days before the Bengals.
  • Cincinnati Reds: Professional baseball began in Cincinnati and Daytonians still flock there in the summer to the Great American Ballpark.
  • University of Dayton Flyers: Men's basketball at the UD arena in Dayton and football, played at Welcome Stadium next door, are the biggest draws, but the UD offers many fine collegiate programs for men and women.
  • Wright State Raiders: Men's basketball and baseball are the popular sports, but like its cross-town rival, Wright state offers a full plate of the best in collegiate sports.
